Now Telling Our Story in Photos

Week 1 in Photos, originally uploaded by todbaker.

This is just the kind of photo I like to publish on our website. I like this one for many reasons.

  • School pride — the students are wearing our school colors which fit the website’s design.
  • Collaboration — they are using technology learning together.
  • Old school and new school — they reading on a computer in a library surrounded by books that appear in the background.
  • Mystery — that Mac glow makes me wonder what they are looking at.
  • Depth of field — I got the focus right. The eyes are sharp and while the foreground and background are blurry they still give enough detail to add interest to the photo.

I published six photos from week 1 on Friday and realized that I was, in effect, telling a story about who we are and what we do. Rather than publishing a photo or two here and there throughout the week, from now on I’m going to publish on Friday six photos from the week. I want to publish the photos that tell the story of teaching and learning that unfolded that week. Instead of  six random photos rotating in a slideshow I can publish a focused photo essay that tells a compelling story — each week is a new chapter.

Hat tip to Steve Moody for the inspiration.
